Bobby Fischer (1943 - 2008) bold autograph of Chess Grand Master Fischer on a First Day Cover from the 1972 World Chess Championship in Iceland, where Fischer (the challenger) defeated Russian Boris Spassky. The match took place at the height of the cold war and consequently was seen as symbolic of the political confrontation between the two superpowers. After the 1972 World Chess Championship, Fischer did not play a competitive game in public for nearly 20 years. Rare.
